Key Concepts

MAN

• An open, unitary being coexistent with the environment, freely participating in the experience of health, and bearing responsibility for choices (Parse, 1987 p 160)

HEALTH

• A process of becoming, the accumulation of man's life experiences
• A nonlinear entity that cannot be interrupted or qualified by terms such as good, bad, more or less' (Parse, 1981 p 39)
• A personal commitment lived uniquely by each individual ( Parse 1990 p.138)

NURSING

• An abstract body of knowledge in service to people 
• Responsible to society, guides the choosing among person in  creation of health 
• An innovative and creative activity unencumbered by prescriptive rules (Parse, 1981 p 81)

ENVIRONMENT

• A dynamic context which is distinct yet inseparable from Man. 
• Recognizable by its own 'pattern and organization' and uniquely contributing to the negentropic unfolding known as health
